Frequently asked questions
Are the prices shown really live?+
Yes — prices are auto-refreshed every 15 seconds, and the exact Cairo time of each update is shown next to the price.
How do I use the gold calculator on this page?+
Scroll below the price table and the historical chart to the third section. Enter the grams you have for each karat (24K, 22K, 21K, 18K) and press Calculate. You'll get the total value at the live price, and you can add a merchant percentage to see the net amount.
How do I pick the right karat when entering grams in the calculator?+
Every gold item is stamped with its karat (24K, 22K, 21K or 18K). The calculator has a separate input for each karat — enter the grams into the field that matches the stamp on your piece. If you have items in mixed karats, fill each karat's input separately and the calculator will sum the total value at the live price of each karat.
How do I add the workmanship percentage in the calculator?+
After entering the grams for each karat, use the "Workmanship / merchant discount" field to type the percentage your jeweler charges (e.g. 10% or 12%). The calculator applies that percentage to the total so you can see the net buy or sell price with workmanship included.
What's the difference between 21K and 18K?+
21K is 87.5% pure gold; 18K is 75% pure. 21K is most popular in Egypt for jewelry, while 18K is harder and used in stone-set and Italian gold.
How is the Egyptian Gold Pound price calculated?+
It weighs 8 grams of 21K, so its price = 21K gram price × 8, plus a small workmanship fee at the jeweler.
Do these prices match jewelry shops exactly?+
These are reference market prices. Actual jeweler buy/sell prices vary slightly due to workmanship and margin.
Which karat is best for investment?+
24K is the purest and used in bullion. 21K is the most traded in Egypt for jewelry and retains good resale value.
Does the page work offline?+
Yes — we cache the last successful prices in your browser, so you'll still see the last known prices if the connection drops.
